I’ve been a Moxhull Hall wedding photographer many times over the past few years – it’s a delight to visit, the team are super friendly and it’s right on my doorstep too! A gem of a wedding venue in Sutton Coldfield (the Royal Town of, I should say) near Birmingham.
It was a lovely autumn day when I was invited to do Liam and Hayley’s wedding photography at Moxhull Hall last October. First up was a brisk walk to photograph the grounds in all its autumnal glory – plenty of sunlight, the lush green of the trees and the stunning Victorian red brick exterior of the Hall.
I then joined Hayley and Team Bride as they made their morning preparations. Moxhull has a great Bridal Studio that’s cosy and minimal, and there’s plenty of natural light and mirrors to photograph everyone’s excited reflections in.
With hair and make-up underway, I took the opportunity to photograph a few details including Hayley’s wedding dress (and Jimmy Choo shoes) the bridesmaid’s dresses, the floral bouquets (pink, red and white roses with sprigs of gypsophila and eucalyptus) and the wedding morning snacks – a colourful selection of fruits, boiled eggs, pastries and bagels.
Meanwhile Liam and the groomsmen were having a relaxed morning playing retro arcade games before donning their bowties.
Soon it was time to head over into The Oak Hall to photograph all the personal touches before the wedding ceremony. Liam and Hayley had opted for an ‘Unplugged Wedding’, meaning all their guests were asked to turn off their devices and be completely in the moment of celebration with the Bride and Groom. A very thoughtful choice! Another great thought were the packets of tissues left on the seats for everyone’s ‘happy tears’.
The cake too was present, three tiers of buttercream and adorning flowers, illuminated in the bay window. And Liam and Hayley’s Welcome to the Wedding board kindly laid out the schedule for their Big Day.
With the guests beginning to arrive, I rejoined Team Bride to photograph the last few finishing touches and the reveal for the Father of the Bride – which is always a wonderful moment.
Liam and Hayley’s wedding ceremony was lovely and intimate. Surrounded by family and friends, they made their vows, exchanged rings and signed the register in front of the large bay windows. There were sprinklings of dried petal confetti as they returned down the aisle as husband and wife – with several bursts creating some fun, candid moments.
After the ceremony came the traditional group photos. The front steps leading to the hall, and the two palms placed either side, provided a great backdrop for everyone to gather round. Lastly came Liam and Hayley, and from there we went off to explore the grounds for their newlywed photoshoot.
One of the best places for outdoor wedding photography at Moxhull Hall is the Victorian Walkway. It’s definitely a highlight, and a very romantic setting. The woodland pavilion too is a fantastic place for couples photography, and the autumn season made it even more so: lush, vivid greens, the scattering of the first falling leaves and the occasional splash of red and orange foliage. And there were plenty of locations to choose from indoors too.
Liam and Hayley’s thoughtfulness really shone throughout the day. On their wedding reception tables there were wooden hearts engraved with each guest’s name and a complimentary wooden drinks token. They opted not to give favours or sweets, but instead donated money to Macmillan Cancer Support.
