I was honoured to be asked to photograph the wedding of Ian and Helen at St Gregorys RC Church, Bearwood, last June.
When I chat to couples and advise them on choosing their wedding photographer, there are always two key things which I recommend. Firstly, that they choose a photographer who’s photographic style they love. Secondly, I always recommend that they find someone who has a personality that they can get on with. Your wedding photographer is going to be with you all day, so you need to choose a photographer who you could almost call another mate after the wedding.
When I went to visit Ian and Helen for the first time, I think we just clicked. The football, the music, I think we were already on the same wavelength before we got down to business. And that makes the rest of the project easier.
Ian Helen got married at St Gregory’s RC Church in Bearwood, Birmingham, just a mile away from my family home, and about 5 minutes walk away from my first house back in the Bearwood days, so it was nice to revisit my old stomping ground.
The reception was held at the lovely Oak Hotel in Hockley Heath, which had just re-opened after an extensive refurbishment. I was taken aback when one of the Ian’s relatives introduced themselves to me as the owner of the hotel! Talk about getting a good deal on the venue!
And finally, a man with his tie around his head! I hadn’t seen one for a number of weddings, but the tradition is back!
Here’s a few of my favourites pictures from the day. Hope you like them.
